France Adopts Loi Ripost: 72-Hour STR Squatter Eviction
France just closed the Airbnb squat loophole. A single-word change in the law ("ET" becomes "OU") means a guest who entered legally via a booking platform but refuses to leave can now be removed by police in 72 hours. France’s Assemblée Nationale adopted the Loi Ripost on 15 July 2026, voting 366 for and 182 against. Article 5 of the law changes a single word in the DALO law (Droit au logement opposable). That word, swapping “ET” for “OU”, rewrites how fast a host can remove a guest who refuses to leave. The practical result: a guest who booked legally through Airbnb but overstays the reservation can now face a 72-hour administrative expulsion, without the host ever needing a judge.
