Airbnb sent Salt Lake City a cease-and-desist letter in early August, alleging city officials created “fraudulent guest accounts” to investigate suspected short-term rental violations. The platform says that breaches its Terms of Service. The demand lands just as Salt Lake City starts licensing short-term rentals for the first time and steps up enforcement against unlicensed and residentially zoned listings, The Salt Lake Tribune reported August 14.
