Basque Tourism Law on Autumn Agenda: What VUT Hosts Face
Lehendakari Pradales has put the Anteproyecto de Ley de Turismo on the new political course's agenda. Consejo de Gobierno approval is plausible this autumn, and the draft would re-license every Donostia VUT on a five-year cycle.

San Sebastián’s holiday rental rules are about to gain a regional layer. Lehendakari Imanol Pradales has put a “nueva ley de turismo” on the Basque Government’s legislative agenda for the new political course, which opens in Donostia the week of 24 August 2026 (El Diario Vasco, 18 August 2026). The Anteproyecto de Ley de Turismo, in consultation since February 2026, is now expected to reach the Consejo de Gobierno this autumn. For the city’s 1,342 licensed VUT operators (Donostia.eus census, 2026), the draft would mean re-licensing every existing tourist rental on a five-year cycle.
