Edinburgh council is set to vote on a 300% council tax premium on second homes and long-term empty properties at its meeting on 27 August 2026. If approved, the increase takes effect from January 2027, and secondary-let short-term-rental operators who own second homes in the city would pay four times the standard council tax rate (The Scotsman, August 2026).
