Venice Short-Term Rental Referendum Drive Launches

A consultative, non-binding referendum on Venice short-term rentals is now gathering support. It cannot change the rules by itself, but it is a new pressure lever that could shape the reform of the city's expiring two-tier regulation.

A Venice residents’ group, “Tutta la città insieme” (All the city together), launched a push on 16–17 August 2026 for a municipal referendum on short-term rentals. The vote would be consultative only: non-binding, unable to change the rules by itself. A promoting committee of 100 citizens must first collect 5,000 authenticated signatures to force it onto the ballot (ANSA, 16 August 2026). There is no deadline yet, and signature collection has not opened.
