Ninety-two unlicensed short-term lets (STLs) were reported to City of Edinburgh Council’s Private Rented Sector Enforcement team in Q1 of the 2026/27 financial year, about one a day. That makes unlicensed STLs the third largest category of enforcement service requests the team receives (Edinburgh News, August 2026). Edinburgh councillors have made their third plea in eight months for the Scottish Government to grant stronger enforcement powers, including significantly higher fines.
