No ecotasa today, none imminent. The Canarian government majority blocks it. But the debate keeps coming back. Here is what Tenerife operators need to know and watch.

The Canarian ecotasa debate keeps resurfacing but remains blocked. The governing coalition of Coalición Canaria (CC) and Partido Popular (PP) opposes a regional tourist tax. The PSOE and Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-bc) support it. In December 2024, Parliament rejected an ecotasa proposal. In April 2025, PSOE tabled a new amendment — under study but with no legislative progress.

The practical result for Tenerife VV operators: no ecotasa today, none imminent. But the political dynamics can shift. A change of government after the next Canarian election could revive the proposal, potentially adding a per-guest, per-night charge on top of the existing IGIC 7% rate.
