Edinburgh levy police unit: 49 arrests in first month
The visitor levy operators collect is directly funding visible city-centre policing. First-month results show the unit is active and producing enforcement data that reinforces the levy's public legitimacy.
Edinburgh’s new City Centre Policing Unit (CCPU), funded entirely by visitor levy proceeds, made 49 arrests and issued 114 charges in its first month of operation, according to data released in early August 2026. The 50-officer unit began patrolling on 2 July and is the most direct, visible return on the levy that short-term-rental operators have been collecting from guests since the charge took effect.
