The Rise of the Last-Minute Guest: How to Adapt Your Pricing Strategy in 2026

European traveler behavior has undergone an irreversible structural transformation. According to the recent Smoobu Insights 2026 European report, 41.7% of bookings are now made within seven days before the stay begins. Bookings planned more than a month in advance have fallen to 33.5%. This paradigm shift results from a new consumer mindset: today’s traveler is much more cautious with finances, extremely price-sensitive, and above all, strategic. They know they operate in a market with abundant supply and use real-time comparison tools to their advantage. Their tactic is clear: wait until the very last moment to snag the best price-quality-experience ratio. Seven out of ten travelers now declare they prioritize experience over the destination itself. To capitalize on this massive last-minute booking wave, adopting dynamic pricing systems and professional automation is no longer optional. Operators dominating the market are those who integrated these systems into daily operations. The real profitability battle now plays out in the seven-day window before check-in.
