Madrid seasonal-rental loophole faces regulation push
Plan RESIDE has not eliminated Madrid's short-term rental supply. It has pushed it into seasonal contracts that face no tourism regulation, and Mas Madrid is now moving to close that gap.
Plan RESIDE was supposed to reduce Madrid’s short-term rental supply. It has — at least on paper. But INE data tells a different story: the number of registered VUT dropped 40%, from 22,435 to 13,431, while approximately 10,684 properties reappeared as “alquiler de temporada” — seasonal rentals that face no tourism regulation, no zoning restriction, and no licensing requirement. Más Madrid is now moving to close that gap.
