Puerto de la Cruz, one of Tenerife’s primary tourist hubs, is drafting a municipal ordenanza de viviendas vacacionales aimed squarely at reducing its vacation-rental footprint. The move follows LOSUTV’s mandate that every Canarian municipality bring its planning regime into compliance — and the numbers in Puerto de la Cruz reveal a massive compliance gap.
Of roughly 2,300 VV operating in the municipality, only about 320 presented a comunicación previa (the formal notification of classified activity), and just 63 have received a favourable report from the Cabildo Insular. The rest operate in a grey zone that the new ordenanza intends to close, backed by LOSUTV sanctions of €15,000 to €150,000 per infraction.
